Walt Disney had a dream – and without that dream, there would be no Disney – I am grateful for this man and his big dreams, as DisneyWorld is where I hold some special memories.
When it comes to theme parks, Disneyland will always hold a special place in all our hearts. After all, it was the first one ever built! Opened on July 17, 1955, the park only had a few areas at the time, including Main Street, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland.
Even though Walt Disney was involved in the ideation of Disney World in Orlando, Florida, he sadly passed away five years before its 1971 opening. Still, we like to think it lived up to his idea of what the Mouse House should really look like. Today, Disneyland remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world – and for good reason. There’s just something about the magic of Disneyland that keeps people coming back for more.

However, when most people think of Disney, they think of the Magic Kingdom park in Orlando, Florida. What they may not know is that the park had a long and interesting history before it ever opened its doors to guests. In this post, we share some of the history of the second park Walt Disney World Resort.
First, the land for the park was purchased by Roy Disney, Walt Disney’s brother, in 1965. Then, construction began on what would eventually become the magic kingdom park. The first guests were invited to visit the park in 1971, and theme park tickets were $5 for adults and $3.50 for children.
Since then, the Magic Kingdom theme park has undergone many changes and improvements. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, attracting millions of visitors each year. And who could blame them? With its fascinating history and beautiful setting, the Magic Kingdom park is truly a place where dreams come true.
On October 1, 1971, the Magic Kingdom park welcomed its first guests into a world of magic and wonder. The brainchild of Roy O. Disney, the theme park was built on a sprawling plot of land in central Florida. making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, ticket prices have increased significantly over the years, but that hasn’t discouraged guests from experiencing the magic for themselves.
Today, the magic kingdom park is just one part of the Walt Disney World Resort, which also includes Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Not forgetting the two water parks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon also not forgetting all the golf courses.
Together, these theme parks receive more than 20 million visitors each year, making them some of the most popular tourist destinations, and the most magical place on earth.
In October 1971, the Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida welcomed its first guests. Inspired by his experience working on the 1964 New York World’s Fair, Roy O. Disney – Walt’s brother and the Company’s co-founder – set out to build “the happiest place on earth.” After more than a decade of planning and construction, Walt Disney World Resort opened with one theme park, two hotels, an industrial complex, and a campground. Today, the Resort is home to four theme parks, 27 themed resort hotels, two water parks, and nearly 150 diverse dining experiences. When it opened, a one-day ticket to the Magic Kingdom Park cost $3.50 for adults and $2 for children ages 3-12.
Throughout its history, Walt Disney World Resort has been a place where dreams come true for millions of people around the world.
Walt Disney’s original plans for Disneyland in Anaheim, California included a “Northwest Frontierland” themed land with a log fort town at its center. However, the fort town was never built, and the area was eventually transformed into Frontierland. In 1965, when Walt Disney was planning the construction of Walt Disney World in Florida, he resurrected his idea for a frontier-themed land. The Magic Kingdom park would feature a fort town at its center, and this time it would be built. The first guests to visit the Magic Kingdom were invited to participate in the “All-American College Week” event from October 1-7, 1971. Roy O. Disney, Walt’s brother, cut the ribbon to officially open the park on October 25, 1971. Ticket prices for the event were $5 for adults and $4 for children.
Here is the timeline for how Walt Disney World was built. This all started with one man a vision and a mouse, Mickey Mouse.
