Typhoon Lagoon Disney Water Park Guide
Typhoon Lagoon Disney Water Park Guide transports you to this water park is set in a typhoon hit lagoon located at Disney World Florida. The theme is set around a ship it is a wonderful day out for all the family. (possibly my favorite Disney Water Park)
At the time of writing this post (April 2020) Typhoon Lagoon was undergoing refurbishment so some features may have changed, however as soon as I know what changes have happened I will write an update.
Some things to know before you go:
Swim attire must be appropriate for a family environment. Inappropriate swim attire, swim attire with buckles, rivets, zippers or exposed metal, and other sharp objects are not allowed on any of the attractions.
Jeans (denim) and wetsuits (neoprene) are not permitted on the following attractions at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park: Bay Slides, Humunga, Kowabunga, Ketchakiddee Creek and Storm Slides.
For safety, diaper-age (Nappy) children must wear plastic pants or swim diapers in pool areas.
Complimentary standard parking is available for all Guests visiting Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. Towel & Locker Rentals are available and can be found at Singapore Sal’s High ‘N Dry Rentals. These are located not far from the entrance to the park and are very well sign posted.
As you enter the Typhoon Lagoon
As you enter the park you will find yourself in amongst palm trees and shrubbery that bring you into the Lagoon scene that continues throughout the park; giving you plenty of photo opportunities. You can also rent a Beach comer shack or a Getaway Glen Umbrella area if you want a little more of an exclusive day.
Beach comer shacks come with Towels, Cushioned seating, A locker, Refillable drink mugs and Ice water available all day and you get a shaded shack area for up to six guests. Also there are attendees on duty to take your food orders and help you have brilliant day. Please remember there are extra costs so please check before you go.
Getaway Glen Umbrellas, you get an area for up to four guests and come with a beach umbrella, 2 reserved loungers, 2 beach chairs, a drink table and Towels.
In the park you will find six places to find food and snacks such as Happy Landings Ice creams for a sweet treat, Leaning Palms, Let’s go Slurpin, Lowtide Lou’s, Snack Shack and Typhoon Tilly’s. All of these are quick service and some have do have seating, however, only four of these have Disney Dining Plan options so please make sure you plan and check before you go to the park.
Also with all Disney Theme parks there are rides and attractions for all, just be aware that some height restrictions may apply on some rides so plan ahead and check the web site or park map before you go. The rides and attractions in Typhoon Lagoon are varied; here is a quick summary of my experience of all the rides.
Typhoon Lagoon Rides/Attractions.
Bay Slides is a twin slide scaled down for guests under 60 inches (5ft) tall and will get the younger ones smiling.
Castaway Creek is a Lazy river that winds its way for 2000 ft around the park and with five landing areas it is easily accessible from anywhere. Float around in one of the supplied inner tube rings or just paddle and enjoy the cool mists and waterfalls around the ride. It’s a firm family favorite and we love our time just chilling around this lazy river.
Crush n Gusher this is a 400 ft long roller coaster styled water ride set in an abandoned fruit packing plant and has three two for pairs to ride “fruit chutes”—the Pineapple Plunger, Coconut Crusher, or Go Bananas and crush it solo! Slide down drops and around snake turns before plunging into hideaway bay. We have ridden this ride as pairs, singles and have ridden it multiple times – another family favorite.
Gang Plank Falls take an over-sized inner tube for four people and slide through rocky caverns, drenching waterfalls and under wooden bridges on this 300-foot long water-slide all while spinning and banking from side to side. Brilliant fun for the family.
Humunga Kowabunga gets ready for the ride of your life as you race down Mount Mayday at a 60-degree angle. Three side-by-side enclosed body slides make for some really good thrills. Slide 214 feet downhill in the dark and spray your way to a surprise ending! It really is a rush of a ride.
Keelhaul Falls a more scenic slide on Mount Mayday for a single rider on an inner tube to rush through a themed ride with boulders and palm trees and splash down at the bottom.
Ketchakiddee Creek is the place for those less than 48 inches (4ft) Kids can play in shallow pools populated by funny crocs, squirting seals, and playful elephants. They can explore mini water-slides, splash in a cave with a waterfall and take aim with water cannons aboard the leaky tugboat S.S. Squirt.
Mayday Falls Probably the most thrilling ride in Typhoon Lagoon it is a turbulent trip down Mount Mayday on a single-rider inner tube. All the family will enjoy the thrills of this medium-wild ride that begins in the shadow of Miss Tilly, the shipwrecked shrimp boat atop Mount Mayday, and the icon of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. Swerve through caves, under bridges, and past thundering waterfalls.
Miss Adventure Falls is a family-raft attraction owned by Captain Mary Oceaneer—a sea-faring treasure hunter whose haul was caught in a rogue typhoon… and scattered across this lagoon years ago. A fast-paced family or friends ride in an over-sized inner tube for 4 people. Hold tight and laugh or scream your way to the end.
Storm Slides choose from one of 3 body slides, Jib Jammer, Stern Burner, or Rudder Buster. Rush through twists and turns and through grottoes down to a three-story high waterfall.
Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, no inner tube here! Just one massive wave pool, listen out for the sonic boom and watch out because those small ripples in the water become a massive 6ft swell and waves come crashing over you. Get ready to be plunged under the water. This is the largest wave pool in North America and the Lagoons’ signature attraction. If you have kids then be prepared to be in here a lot! Also, take care on the bottom of the pool – my youngest has scraped /grazed her legs a time or two due to the rough texture of the bottom of the pool – however this has never stopped her keep going back to the wave pool as its a firm favorite.
Disney are planning for August 2020 some extra party nights at Typhoon Lagoon, however with the current Pandemic this may change so please check before you go. These H2O party nights are an extra cost and are only on set days but they do look like lots of fun, we haven’t been to a party night, you get to go to the water park and see special theming and lights and party until 11 pm showing off the illuminous attractions, you will also find the park will have attractions open to ride and probably shorter queue times. Planned things you get are Glow-rious lighting effects and décor throughout the water park, a DJ dance party on the sandy beaches of the Surf Pool, Toy Story-themed activities and Character Greetings, a tempting selection of limited-time, event-themed food and beverage specialties, an adults-only retreat for Guests 21 and over, featuring live entertainment and a cocktail bar with a bevy of refreshing beverage for purchase and an oh-so flashin’-able souvenir glow wristband. This is something that we have never done – however looks and sounds like so much fun.
I hope this covers everything you need to know about Typhoon Lagoon. Check out Blizzard Beach another awesome Disney Water Park. Brush up on your Disney Lingo!
